SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY STAFF’S HEROIC EFFORTS DURING TORNADO EMERGENCY TO BE RECOGNIZED WITH SPECIAL CEREMONY
Tallahassee, FL – [July 8, 2024] – St. Augustine Plantation Assisted Living and Memory Support will publicly recognize the extraordinary commitment and bravery of its staff during the May tornado emergency in Tallahassee, which damaged the community’s memory support building.
“Our team at St. Augustine Plantation demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication in following our inclement weather response plan during the recent tornado outbreak,” said Megan Griffin, Executive Director of St. Augustine Plantation. “As a result, they were able to protect our residents and get them to safety. We are proud to recognize our team members for their swift actions and unwavering commitment to our residents’ well-being.”
The community will hold a recognition event on Tuesday, July 30, from 11:00 am to
1:00 pm at the community, located at 2507 Old St Augustine Road in Tallahassee. Special guest Secretary Michelle Branham of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs will present specific awards to the following team member honorees:
“Stronger than the Storm” Award
Christa Bacon and Kordesia Doolin – for demonstrating quick thinking when they received the tornado warning and promptly evacuated residents to the designated safe location in our memory support community, saving lives and preventing injuries. Shortly thereafter, trees damaged several apartments where residents had been, highlighting the critical impact of their swift actions.
“Calm in the Storm” Award
Kristen Fryson, Octavia Green, Alexia Henderson, Shatereas Henry, Lanayjah Kelly, Danielle Knight, Tamarian Lindsey, Tammie Rush McLean, Emma Murray,
Mary Rising, Betty Smith, Ella Tucker, and Jermethia Watson – for providing vital assistance by helping evacuate residents through debris and water, seeing them to safety in the community’s assisted living building, providing comfort and a sense of calm in the immediate aftermath.
“When Times Get Tough…We Rise” Award
Tanacia Bryant, Lee Davis, Elizabeth Gibson, Frankeria Jones, Louis Maresca, Brenda Randall, and Kina Rowley-Bartley – for answering the emergency call and making extraordinary efforts to reach the community, including walking long distances on foot, and climbing through fallen trees. Their support was crucial in helping the community maintain continuous care to residents.
Additional team members who were present on the day of the storm will be acknowledged for their dedication and service. Refreshments will be served.
